About Philip

Philip Cuomo wore many hats: Producing Artistic Director of CoHo Productions, company member at Third Rail Repertory Theatre, Executive Director of PETE's Institute for Contemporary Performance training program, Executive Director of Portland Actors Conservatory, instructor at Sonia Moore Studio of Theatre, and Founder of the CoHo Clown cohort. As an actor, director, teacher, administrator, advocate, and clown, Philip played a critical role in shaping Portland’s theatrical ecosystem as it stands today. He nurtured dozens of new plays and programs and helped countless companies, producers, and artists bring their work to life.

From 2013 to 2021, Philip Cuomo was the Producing Artistic Director for the CoHo Theatre. During that period, Philip diligently sought to purchase the CoHo Theatre building, along with the adjacent warehouse space to create an ideal collaborative space for artists.

On November 27, 2021, we lost Philip to an aggressive illness. Rather than lose Philip’s dream, members of Philip’s family and community formed The Cuomo Theatre Fund to honor Philip’s legacy.

Third Rail Repertory Theatre, Portland Experimental Theatre Ensemble (PETE), and CoHo Productions began a collaboration as The Cuomo Theatre Fund. As a team, we are dedicated to complete the purchase of the building and secure a thriving, sustainable future for the arts.
